Dr. Roger Lyss

Dr. Roger Lyss

“In order to help you, we must first get to know you.”

Inspiration

Dr. Roger Lyss didn’t need to look far for inspiration when deciding to become a chiropractor. “My father, who was a chiropractor, began teaching me chiropractic techniques at age 14. I began attending chiropractic seminars with him at age 15.” Dr. Lyss also assisted his father in teaching seminars before attending Palmer Chiropractic College. This unique background has provided him the strong desire to naturally heal patients.

Education and Background

Dr. Lyss graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1984 from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. The day after graduation, he married his wife, Elizabeth Lyss.

Dr. Lyss moved his growing family to Springfield, OH in 1985, where he joined the practice of Dr. David Polen. “Dr. Polen’s specialty was nutrition combined with chiropractic. He was a brilliant man, when it came to nutrition, that taught me a great deal.”

In 1989, the Lyss family moved to Gahanna, OH. Dr. Lyss opened his practice shortly after, in April of 1990. Within 6 months, he had a waiting list. “I believe in trying to help those who have yet to find help.” With this mindset, Dr. Lyss has helped numerous patients, locally and throughout the country.

Dr. Lyss stays abreast of new information by steadily attending post-graduate chiropractic and nutritional seminars. Dr. Lyss is also a member of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association.

Family and Personal Interests

Dr. Roger Lyss enjoys spending time with his wife, Liz, whom he met in the 8th grade. They have 3 children, Dan, Andrew and Becky. Dr. Lyss likes motocross sport and spending time amongst nature as much as possible.

Nutrition and Chiropractic

Dr. Lyss has not lost sight of his passion for healing. “Patients are the heart of my practice….and all of my patients know my heart.” Lyss Chiropractic Center is a location for physical, mental and emotional healing through nutrition and chiropractic techniques. “We empower our patients to take control, support them in making good choices and to reach their full potential in a healthful lifestyle. To be a part of a patient’s life, witnessing their health progress and seeing their life change is a privilege. It’s my biggest reward.”

Dr. Jennifer Irvine

"Educating patients on optimal health is my goal…. Helping people heal is my passion!"

Inspiration

I have always been interested in medicine and helping people. I thought I wanted to be a medical doctor, but I had personal experience that changed that for me. My brother, father and step-father were diagnosed with cancer. They endured surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy. I came to the realization that becoming a medical doctor was not for me, as these experiences ignited my passion for health prevention of disease and functional medicine.

Education & Background

I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Business from St. Norbert College in DePere, WI in 1993. I then went on to Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, MO. I met my husband, Dr. Charles Irvine while studying at Logan. Graduating in 1998, I worked as a chiropractor in Woodstock, IL, before marrying my husband and moving to Columbus, OH. (The movie Groundhog Day was filmed in beautiful Woodstock, IL)

Family and Personal Interests

Chuck and I have one son, Jack, who is a freshman in high school. I love to travel and spend time with my family, as well as gardening. I enjoy cooking home-made meals and entertaining friends and family. I get such pleasure making healthy, delicious tasting food, mostly from scratch.

When cooking, I focus on making food from the Paleo and Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) diets for myself and family. I make bone broth, ferment coconut kefir/yogurt, kombucha, water kefir, sauerkraut pickles and vegetables.

I continue learning and stay up to date on the latest research by attending post graduate nutritional and functional medicine seminars. This allows me to keep my passion for healing ignited and gives me an advantage to help heal and educate my patients.

Nutrition and Chiropractic

My passion is to educate patients on how to optimize a lifestyle and environment that can maximize their healing potential. Suffering from Hashimoto disease (an autoimmune hypothyroid disease),   I know exactly what it feels like to be really sick. I have empathy and compassion for anyone that is suffering with dysfunction or disease. I am here to help people regain their optimal health and maintain a balanced lifestyle. It’s my calling.

"What our patients are saying"
  • A friend recommended Dr. Lyss to me at a time when I was having what I thought were gall bladder attacks. Because of the diagnostic capabilities of the computron and Dr. Lyss’ experience with it, I found that the pain was actually due to inflammation of the bile duct and was soon free of it. That was the beginning of many years of a life giving health relationship with Lyss Chiropractic Center. I have been healed of rheumatoid arthritis, migraine headaches and auras. I have experienced improved liver function. Dr. Lyss also has educated and equipped me to take charge of my health as well as demonstrated adjustment techniques. In times of health emergencies, I have always found Dr. Lyss faithful to respond and guide. He has spent countless hours during our one-to-two hour appointment sessions formulating my unique health profile and needs. I remain forever grateful to have Lyss Chiropractic partnering with me for optimum life choices.

  • By coming to Dr. Lyss, and learning from his knowledge and experience, I have gained so much. Without his guidance, I never would have realized there were so many factors that can contribute to overall health. He looks at the total body and not just a specific symptom to determine why a body reacts the way it does to different life situations. My daughter had so many things going on with her little body from a young age. Dr. Lyss was quickly and easily able to determine that the root of her problems was a weak hypothalamus. As soon as we started to support that organ, her whole world began to change for the better.

  • Dr. Jen is an amazing doctor! From the moment you walk into the room she makes you feel comfortable, listens to you, and she truly cares about you and making you feel better. Our whole family sees her, including my 5-year-old and little baby. I don’t know what we would do without her! We are so thankful to have her in our life!

  • I started coming to Dr. Jen. I had been diagnosed with Lupus, Sjrogrens syndrome, auto immune, and cirrhosis of the liver and low thyroid. My joints were stiff and achy. Lots of knee and hip pain and a lot of digestive problems. With the manipulation and the supplements, I have improved and can do things that I couldn’t do before because I was too stiff and couldn’t walk much. I can now walk after Dr. Jen got my hips and knees in place. Digestion has greatly improved with enzyme supplements and eliminating gluten and sugar. I am 67 and feel better now than when I was 40.

  • After years of horseback riding, my body was screaming (neck and back). I finally went to a chiropractor and found the experience rough and the adjustments never holding. Then a friend recommended Dr. Jennifer Irvine. What a different experience! From the first adjustment everything was different. I felt like I had a new body and eight years later I’m still coming back a very happy patient.
